Mike came back from the interview looking shattered & bartered. His shirt loosened & his tie all over the place. Immediately, we all knew it was a failed interview like the 65 he has attended in the last 3weeks. We helped him sit down as he told us what happened

Mike is one of our flatmates who came from the east 2years ago. He's been squatting with his friend Femi who has a room in our flat as well. Together we were 5 in the 3bedroom flat apartment. Of us all, Mike was the only exceptional cook among us so we loved him exceptionally.

Of the 5 of us, he was the only "idle" one hence he came to Lagos to hustle & job hunt. Mike has a loveable personality but he is short tempered. At the slightest provocation he could tear down a whole building & everything therein.

Since he came around, he's worked at a few places but his temper did him dirty so he doesn't last more than two weeks at any job. The last time, we had to contribute money to bail him out. Since then, he's been reluctant attending interviews. He started attending again

But for the past weeks, no show. So when this interview text came in, we had to hold a family meeting and beg him to comport himself at the interview venue and from hence forth because its been 2years & he's not contributed a dime for rent or any of our bills.

He started his tale of how the interview went...

He said when he got there, he was the 3rd person to arrive the venue. He met a very rude security man who was ordering everyone around & disrespecting everyone. Unlike the usual him, he was making peace & trying to calm things.

After he successfully calmed everything down, a young lady who was 30mins late drove in looking all classy, walked up to the gateman & asked him where & when the interview would be holding. The gate man answered her & she screamed at him asking why they would keep us waiting.

He actually thought she was a senior staff of the company until the gateman asked her "madam abeg who you be sef?" She replied that she was one of the people that came to be interviewed. The gateman immediately began to rant & before he could say much the lady landed him a slap.

Another fight almost started but he again calmed things down, wondering how someone can be that irrational. He said, he began o see himself in other people and immediately started regretting every irrational decision & action he had taken prior to then.

Another guy came in an hour late for the interview and started ordering everyone around. He claimed to be the brother of one of the manager's hence his chances were high. Well, everyone except him started doing his bidding because they wanted to use his connection

We didn't bother asking Mike because we know he has a huge ego & he's a sucker for doing the right thing no matter how annoying it may be.

While this was going on, the gateman came & asked everyone to give them his CV so he can see if they qualify for he job.

They all got up and pounced on him. With his poorly constructed English, how can he even read the CVs. He went in again to save the day as it almost led to a serious fight. Not long after, the guy whose Relation is a manager went to the gateman, gave him some money to get him

Unit. The gateman calmly said, "oga abeg I no fit commot from this gate, if I commot that means you want make my oga just sack me". And this resulted in the gateman being insulted. This guy literally told the gateman does he not think it's time he got a better job.

The others joined in in mocking him as he again stepped in, took the gateman to one corner, begged him to calm down & gave him his CV as a way to keep him occupied while he took the other guys aside & begged them to be patient with the gateman. They turned on him

They insulted him to the point he went back to his seat & sunk in. Home they were at it, the gateman came back with a very polished English, stretched out his hard & offered him a handshake saying "young man, for your impeccable display of good character, you're hired...

... you're now the new customer relationship manager. Please follow me to my office". He said the security man called out to the gateman who was inside his security post to chase out the other charlatans.

Apparently, the gateman they met was the CEO who disguised himself because he wanted the perfect person for the job. Meanwhile the real gateman is the relative of the man who was bragging about having a relative who was a manager in the company.

The CEO took him up, gave him appointment letter and a cash sum of 200k to get some new clothes and resume the next day.

He said his rumpled clothes was new to the dance of excitement he has been doing while on his way back. He took us out, and flexed us tight that evening.

In a nutshell, when you go for an Interview, your interview starts from the moment you walk into the premises.

Control your anger and attitude. It yourself in check and know that you're being watched.
