Lots of stories right now about how people of color are being disproportionately affected by #coronavirus and #covid19. I'm asking these questions in #Georgia, but there are limitations to what I can know based on what the state is releasing. First, here's what I do know. 1/5
Thanks to the @uscensusbureau I do know what proportion of residents in #Georgia counties aren't white. And I can express that as a percentage. Thanks to @GaDPH I know in which counties #COVID19 has killed. I can make a chart of the two. 2/5
A second chart, this time a per capita adjustment of deaths per 100k in population. That spike near the right end is Lee County, the majority white suburb of majority black Dougherty County. Dougherty (spike on far left) leads the state in the raw number of #covid19 deaths. 3/5
That looks like a pretty strong correlation between whether a county is minority white and and #covid19 deaths. But this clearly doesn't tell the whole story. What about those deaths in majority white communities? Could they be disproportionately people of color, too? 4/5
I don't know. That's why I have asked the state for the race of each person #covid19 has killed in Georgia so far, to get that fine grained look at this trend. 5/5
