We are an anonymous collective of young people that were involved in Momentum, and we are choosing to speak up now, about what we feel was at best a lack of safeguarding, and at worst a pattern of abuse. 1/11

We are speaking up now because we know there are other stories and the consistent rebranding and factionalisation means that the whole truth is never heard. 2/11

There is an unsafe atmosphere for women in Momentum, specifically their central office, and via extension The World Transformed, where older, male staff members and volunteers have, and continue to harass and assault younger women that work there. 3/11

The people high up in the organisation are often aware of these instances, but let them continue, and rehire these men. It is unsafe for women, and younger members and volunteers. 4/11

If we know about these men, and the fact it has been brushed under the carpet since 2016, how do we know that these men haven’t created similar environments and committed similar incidents before @PeoplesMomentum or @TWT_NOW … 5/11

... and Momentum’s lack of procedure and a staff made up of rape apologists allowed them into an environment that was ripe for predatory behaviour? Alongside this, the fact that the two organisations overlap in terms of staff should be a consideration. 6/11

Both organisations know of the amount of abuse committed, and both are prevalent in encouraging survivors to hide what they have experienced for ‘the good of the movement’. 7/11

It shouldn’t have to be on us, as anonymous young people who have experienced this environment, to have to take a stand, but we are worried about the safety of women in Momentum who are unaware of the true nature of the people they work with. 8/11

This is also in part because many of the people that were aware and experienced this have now left, often due to instances along those lines. We know of a multitude of incidents committed in the central office, and of a lack of safeguarding and the existence of... 9/11

… predatory men in regional groups. Rebranding as ‘Forward Momentum’ does not remove these people or create any form of procedures that will protect people. The left has a tendency to rebrand in order to hide their past, this means predators are not held accountable. 10/11

We are not releasing any names, but we urge people to start this conversation. Talk to your friends that were involved in the movement, raise concerns without starting a ‘witch hunt’, and look after each other. 11/11
