I was recently assaulted by a family member and thrown out of my own home by another. I’m trying to finish college while I worry about housing and food, not to mention pending legal issues and hefty student loans. But none of that matters because we’re not alone.
In many places #domesticviolence has gone up by as much as 20% under the pressures of quarantine and financial stress. Meanwhile resources have greatly shrunk because of quarantine and shelters are past capacity.
We can organize (safely) and find our own solutions. Domestic violence victims are victims of circumstance, of others’ maladaptive coping mechanisms, of the shortcomings of human beings. But even in a pandemic we can find solutions and find each other.
Comment on this thread if you can relate and want to figure this out together. This whole experience has shown me the power people have in lifting each other up. You’re not alone. We’re not alone.
