problem's much worse imo. political level in labour is so low that most people define their politics largely through personal loyalties and relationships - so when something claiming to share that politics comes externally, it must be dishonest Stalinist/liberal/etc wreckers https://twitter.com/CallumCant1/status/1247877550740779008
"political level" being quite a broad term, covering e.g. people's personal development & comprehension, level of political education & media infrastructure, standard of public debate, formal political organisation, openly declared & understood political differences, etc etc
people don't understand or openly declare their own politics, aren't organised formally on an explicit political basis, so everything's done informally through personal networks so it becomes rational to say "I agree with the stated politics but X retweeted it so it must be bad"
what are the real dividing lines in this debate? it's mainly personal networks based on who's mates with which people in the Momentum office, which unions you have links to, which left media do you have friends on the editorial team of, which local groups are you linked to, etc
There are some underlying political differences, although they map very murkily onto the actual factional divides but besides Brexit they're hardly ever actually discussed or contested openly
actual divides probably are: nature of working class in UK (crudely: young precarious/migrant workers vs pensioners in northern towns), wtf is imperialism (by extension, what's our line on migration), how electoralist are we, how do we relate to existing union & party structures
but those political divides don't fit at all neatly into the practical factional divides we see playing out in these debates
obviously another key divide is about concrete assessment of particular institutional and strategic failures the past five years and who gets the blame (and by extension who can be trusted to fix things) - especially e.g. election strategy or Momentum internal democracy
but that's again as much mediated by personal networks as it is by actually political differences
