I& #39;m about to take part in an ACTUAL live auction for vintage Star Wars toys, remotely. Like in an actual auction house with an auctioneer and a hammer and everything.
This is really quite exciting.

A carded Palitoy Chewbacca just sold for £3,100
The auctioneer sounds tired already - we& #39;re only on lot #6 of 250.

People keep trying to snipe at the last second like its eBay, and it& #39;s messing with the system.
The auctioneer just undid someone& #39;s online bids because they came after the hammer. That& #39;s some enraged nerds right there, guaranteed!

I don& #39;t think this auction house has worked with Star Wars toy collectors before. Their estimates are waaaaaaaaaay off...
Also, I think some of these bidders are a little excitable. You can buy some of this stuff directly from online dealers for a lower price, without paying 24% commission...

"Looks like we& #39;re all done at £950... No, we& #39;re not, £1,000 I am bid... £1,050... 100... 150... 250... 400... I& #39;m just gonna be quiet for a moment..."

This guy is great value.

LUCKILY... I am not too interested in carded/boxed toys.
Otherwise I& #39;d be facing bankruptcy.
Some of these early items are going for CRAZY money.

Prices are settling down as we head into the vehicles and playsets. I& #39;m cautiously optimistic for the loose figure lots...
The auctioneer has to CONSTANTLY remind people not to snipe, it just messes up the system.
"If you want to buy the thing, just say how much money you want to pay. It& #39;s that simple. This isn& #39;t eBay, you& #39;re not tricking anyone - I& #39;m just going to open it up to the floor again."

BUYER 5386 YOU ARE MY NEMESIS
Auctioneer: "I& #39;ve lost the will to live, to be honest. This thing just keeps beeping at me. Have any of you been to an auction before? Or do you not get out much?"
In fairness he sounds very pleased with the VAST amounts of commission the auction house is earning.
"I guess we will all have jobs to come back to, after all..."

I don& #39;t think I& #39;ve ever heard a man so annoyed by unexpected additional money coming into his business.
"All done at £120... going once, twice, and... No, I guess we& #39;re back on with one of our new eBay friends, at £130..."
