— a guide to improve your dancing /freestyle, a thread;
these are some tips i have picked from watching hope on the street, analizing bts different dance techniques and my own personal experience so far since i'm a urban dancer (i train hip hop, popping, locking, break dance, dancehall, afro, house...)
first of all and the most important thing: stretch! you won't be able to reach your full abilities if you don't stretch and you will also avoid injuries! so please, take this as a serious sport and dont dance when your body is cold!
— find your own personal movement
BTS' dance line has a really different dance technique and style. jungkook is able to adapt himself to any dance style because he had a variated dance formation, but hoseok clearly tends to be better in popping (contracting and relaxing moves) +
and jimin is a delicate, graceful dancer who tends to be better in soft, contemporary dances (even though he's a great hip hop/krump performer as well)

search about all the main dance styles; its history and basic dance moves and train the ones you're most comfortable with
start bouncing!

this is the most important step, specially in hip hop and you can use it to give more groove/swag to your moves! you can change the rythm, the direction and the dinamic and use it to warm up!
don't hesitate to repeat the basic steps over and over! its essential to dominate them and have a proper foundation
try not to overthink while dancing!

this is one of the most repeated mistakes, just go with the flow, prepare some combos you're comfortable with and play with it, but don't hesitate to go along with the music and eventually get out of your comfort zone
explore your body musically-wise, you will get surprised when you discover all the things you can do with it: waving, isolating, slow motion, different speeds or playing with the floor are some techniques you can practise!
as i just mentioned, isolation is a really cool technique, but a little bit difficult to execute. you have to identify every part of your body and muscle properly.

an example of how hoseok does it flawlessly! :
this is an example of hoseok warming up and training popping, one of the most difficult dance styles for sure

its essential to identify every part of your body and be able to control each one of them, so you can improve your moves and be more detailed!
find yourself dance buddies!

allow yourself to make mistakes, so people can correct you to improve. you can do some exercises together, propose different concepts and try to imitate them, for example, pretend you're under water or wearing chains, its fun!
train your muscle memory, practise directions and musicality! each dance style has its own specific music, so drown yourself into the music so you can identify it and recognise any dance style along with its music!
explore footwork! its important to control both, the upper and lower part of your body!

when it comes to the upper part of your body, avoid torso stiffness, stay clean with your hand and arm lines and practise some styles like waaking, tutting or vogue
my own personal tips:

● record yourself often so you can watch and correct your own weaknesses

● practise daily or weekly, and new different styles each time

● be a versatile dancing!

● find a comfortable and spacious place to dance and speakers, if you own them
● practise both, with and without a mirror (you have to get used to not having a mirror all the time in real performances)

●go out of your comfort zone and explore new things!

●don't compare yourself to others, but use them as an inspiration to grow and learn
● find suitable and comfortable clothing to dance! (specially the right shoes, avoid dancing with socks!)

● learn about both, the new and the old skool! youtube is the greatest resource nowadays

● watch films and documentaries to learn about the history of some dance styles!
my last tip: take it seriously! even if its a fun activity, it requires seriousness and discipline, so don't do things half-heartedly.

practise your facials and your body collocation as well!

you can do it! just be consistent and don't give up! my dms are open if u need help:)
