First Take on the Mogul AoE2 Asia Cup.
Skeptical if this will actually be a proper event, a year-long event, with 4 qualifiers for each of 4 playoffs to make the Major Finals next year. Longer than ECL, with less prizemoney & less top players involved. 1/? https://twitter.com/Mogulgg/status/1247833591112798208
I see there being little to no interest in broadcasting the event, up until the finals, so there will be little to no promotion over the year through major streams. Who really wants to see ACCM, BacT, Cool, Chart beating up on nobodies for a year?
2/?
The organisation itself seems to show a complete lack of understanding of how @AgeOfEmpires tournaments are hosted currently, a 1v1 tournament played on 3player sized maps? Speed unlocked? No specifications about which maps are played.
3/?
The site looks fairly professional and has some interesting sponsors/partners ( @Razer , @teamsecret etc) but my gut feeling is it's just a random company trying to take advantage of @Microsoft and make some money to improve their site (and other 'mainstream' games on it),
4/?
while not really caring about AoE2.
A $70,000 investment leads into only $5,000 in actual prizes, another $14,000 worth of Razer Silver most of which is useless as its only worth a $20 discount code for most tournament placements, so if you don't plan on buying razer,
5/?
products its useless prizes.
Look at Hidden Cup 3 by @T90Official $50,000 investment, over $56k in prizes + production costs, and we hit over $50k viewers on twitch, massive promotion for the game.
Imagine what could happen if MS gave $70k to the community for more events, 6/?
far more of that money would be put into the event, and it would actually reward those who have stuck by this franchise for years & continue the upward trend in viewer growth.
7/end
