Unpopular opinion: Many people drag Taylor for releasing ME! as a lead single but I think it& #39;s actually a smart choice.
Well first, it sets the tone or at least gives a little vibe of the album and it fits with the aesthetic of the album which is meant to be about love and all its different forms. The MV further defines the aesthetics of the album.
Second, it& #39;s Taylor& #39;s first time collaborating with Brendon Urie! An unexpected collab. Of course, it would be a waste not to have it filmed, right? Fans of both will surely watch it and non-fans might give it a try out of curiosity. Smart move!
Third, the MV of ME! maximizes the collab by making Brendon an accomplice in putting out easter eggs for us Swifties (ex: the fight scene, the proposal scene with Benjil, etc.) It makes more sense instead of inserting another character out of the blue.
Fourth, it was a fun song! Personally, I love it when it was first released because I& #39;m just glad that Taylor& #39;s back and she& #39;s happy & enjoying what she does. It may not be her best song as the lyrics aren& #39;t that deep (which we know is her forte) but it& #39;s supposed to be just fun.
Fifth, many fans wished for Cruel Summer to be the lead single but imagine if it was. Yes, it would do good and will surely top the charts but it will give off a whole different vibe and many might assume that we have Rep 2.0 or things aren& #39;t going well for her, which is wrong.
Cruel Summer is a masterpiece and I also long for it be a single but it wouldn& #39;t work as a lead single as it will make many have this whole different expectation of what the album is gonna be about and it doesn& #39;t fit with the aesthetics of the album.
Imagine hearing Cruel Summer first which is one of her best songs, then we& #39;ll have really high expectations and when the expectations aren& #39;t met, we might feel differently about the album. Then some might blame Taylor for not giving what they expected in the album (ex: rep 2.0).
The album is really good and has a lot of bops and I think it was more appreciated because of how it was introduced to us. Many fans & non-fans thought Taylor is losing her touch as ME! & YNTCD aren& #39;t lyrically deep but surprise! She has all these gems waiting to be heard.
Most of us dive into the album with a totally different expectation because of the released singles but she gave us so much more. She& #39;s experimented with different instruments and genre and I love it! Real fans would care more for the music rather than the charts.
Our girl, Tay, is doing really well despite her singles not topping charts. I know some fans just want non-fans to also hear these gems of tracks but let& #39;s not drag her. People have already pressured her into removing the "spelling is fun" line which is just cruel.
She thought it was fun to include that but y& #39;all think she& #39;s not so great anymore because of writing simple lyrics for a fun song! A radio song! Now, you changed the meaning of the song for her. When she hears/plays it, she might think of all the backlash instead of enjoying it.
I love Taylor so much and I know you do, too. So let& #39;s just support her and her decisions, ok? She could& #39;ve gone lowkey and be with her family esp in these trying times but she still put out music for us and shared her life with us. Let& #39;s give back by showing her love not hate.
I love you and I support your decisions @taylorswift13 https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đź’›" title="Yellow heart" aria-label="Emoji: Yellow heart">
