My university @NorwichUniArts initially pledged to offer third year students ‘Extenuating Circumstances’ regarding the assessment of their final hand-in. However, they have now u-turned on the original decision with little communication or explanation (1)
Moving/changing the goalposts for students already disadvantaged by the current pandemic situation is unfair and confusing. University is already difficult enough to navigate as a student with mental illness. How is a two week extension with revised assessment guidelines (2)
(Which change a small section of wording on the criteria) expected to compensate for an entire term of a loss of studios, workshops & contact with tutors & other students? I wish there was something we, as students who frankly feel hurt and not listened to, could do (3) #norwich
Update: staff clarified that the ‘Extenuating Circumstances’ awarded IS the two week extension. However, the original from the vice chancellor gives the impression that a two week extension AND (“also”) further support would be in place
Attached are guidelines from @NorwichUniArts that clearly state that a deadline extension and extenuating circumstances have different implications, results and benefits.
For the university to go back on its previous decision and attempt to convince students that the ‘Extenuating Circumstances’ awarded is the two week deadline extension, not the grade and assessment security we first assumed, isn’t something that we’re going to not notice 😪
Upholding extenuating circumstances ALONGSIDE a deadline extension for all students because of the disruption caused by Covid-19 would be the fairest option, considering the original email from the Vice-Chancellor
