Great to be with funders across the sector to discuss the challenges of school closures for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Huge thanks to @stephentall and @EducEndowFoundn for convening.
Key theme for me so far: we need to listen to teachers and schools who are actually confronting these issues day to day.
Technology can support learning but only when it’s aligned with high quality teaching and when the implementation is closely supported.
Many of the best schools we know are really concentrating on empathy and relationships with parents through this crisis. Progress through the curriculum isn’t the most pressing need in many cases.
Parents can’t replicate school at home, and nor should they be expected to.
Strikes me that it’s the quality and continuity of relationships between home and school that is likely to matter most in the long run.
