There are a lot of people that don't seem to understand the futility of widespread testing with the current PCR test and also what the rest of the world are actually doing.

Germany, South Korea etc are not "mass testing". South Korea has tested 0.89% and Germany 1.2% of pop /1 https://twitter.com/tnewtondunn/status/1247560302125875203
In other words, both countries have not tested 99% of their population. That's not mass testing.

Of the tests both countries have performed on the general public Germany has wasted 90% and S.Korea 98% on useless negative results. Consumables other countries need for the sick.
And a negative result is useless. Because you don't know if that person has already had it and can return to normal life, or if they can still catch it.
They also need to be tested over and over again in theory. Every day? Week? Month? /3
Think of it like this. You are security at a football match checking people for weapons at the door. You have millions of home fans but you know there are large numbers nasty away fans.

However, you are only checking 1% of fans entering. /4
Of those fans you check you find 10% have knives, but what about the other 99%. Some of those people might be carrying 2 or 3 knives that they give to their friends when they enter. Some of the people you checked that didn't have knives could now have them /5
Whats the efficacy of only checking 1%? It's useless. Checking 1% is practically no different from testing 0% when you know that there are potentially millions of fans with knives.

It's even worse when the 90% of people who didn't have a knife can get one after you checked. /6
So what purpose does it actually serve? All it is doing is taking scant resources away from countries that actually need them for the truly sick and key workers. /7
Mass testing is important, but not with this test. It's slow, consumable intensive, labour intensive and ultimately pointless when you have social distancing measures in place.
What is required is a "at home" antigen test and antibody test. /8
Until we have those, any form of "mass" testing is a waste of time and resources.

In the mean time don't believe the media nonsense that we are somehow failing by not copying Germany. /9
