#thread for weeks we’ve been told there’ll b a package of support forthcoming 2meet the needs of the people we serve. we estimate that the funding hole is c£4bn. this isn't to help us meet the additional demand. #EveryDayCounts 1/
£4bn is based on usual demand; but we’re not in a ‘bus as usual’ environment! Some charities cld have less demand but we know many have far more. It doesn’t deal with all charities; we've excl churches, private schls, private hospitals etc from the estimate #EveryDayCounts 2/
£4bn isn’t the full extent of the need. We've asked 4what we think is the MINIMUM those we serve need in order 2not b hit hardest from this awful situation. #EveryDayCounts 3/
£4bn is a big number. Gov has a terribly difficult task 2balance many & competing needs there is no doubt. But in a compassionate society surely the needs of the most vulnerable & marginalised should be prioritised over others? this is about them #EveryDayCounts 4/
On rough calcs (taking everything made available from all sources 2date) Gov's £support is dwarfed by Foundations, the public & philanthropy. THE GAP REMAINS in the £bns. @rishisunak the package needs to address that need. #EveryDayCounts 5/
The Welsh Gov found £500m & the Scottish Gov set aside £350m (of which perhaps 50% is for social need) surely @rishisunak can get close to the £4bn our beneficiaries need? #EveryDayCounts Ends.
