Instagram Live has seen @torylanez pull in 200k concurrent viewers and @jamesblake pull 30k, but it offers no tools for monetisation.

In a post-pandemic world without touring, many of our favourite artists need to find new revenue sources.

Some ideas on how IG Live could help👇
1. Shop for an artist's merch while watching them perform

Travis Scott, Kanye West, Chance the Rapper - all have been making serious money through their merch.

Future album releases could coincide with an IG-Live performance and exclusive merch drops all in one digital space.
2. Meet & Greets

Justin Bieber charged $7k+ for meet and greets at his concerts.

Using the 'go live with' feature, this offline experience could be replicated on IG Live for a fee.

A video of the interaction could be automatically sent to the fan afterwards.
3. Virtual Gifts

Chinese apps do this extremely well - not sure for Western markets, but worth an experiment.

Gifts could be a fun way to tip your favourite artist. Maybe they can add to the atmosphere of the live performance (e.g. paying to make a cheering sound heard by all)
4. Go VIP

With the popular videos, you can have hundreds or thousands of people commenting at the same time.

With VIP, a fan's profile could be made to standout when they comment, and remain visible for a longer time than non-VIPs.

VIPs could also unlock bonus content etc.
Why is this interesting?

- Artists better monetise their IG following
- IG gets a cut from all these transactions that protects itself against falling ad-spend
- IG becomes a destination for big online events and protects itself against TikTok, Spotify
- More indie artists?
