OK, this is still the current situation.... ebooks I cannot buy so my students can access them during this crisis. Guess why
Ebook 1= £800
Ebook 2= £480
Ebook 3 = £540
Ebook 4= £500
Ebook 5= £320
Ebook 6= £1786 (yup! single user!) Taylor and Frances, Routledge and Elsevier
Ebook 7 -= £600

They are ALL single user licences. I have been complaining to @Jisc for weeks before this crisis. U would hope now is the time to fix this....what do these publishers do?
"Guess what!!! you can have these books temporarily at unlimited access...."
Great, right? NO. Makes good copy tis all.

I cannot afford these books full stop! whatever the licencing allowances.

Outlaw these obscene prices for work generated by academia!!
academic librarians are wasting HOURS of time trying to source alternatives and telling students why they can't read half the stuff they need to for their course.
things are stressful enough!

Also, while I am ranting

PUBLISHERS!!! Key texts......publish them in eformat in the first place and stop releasing new editions every year with no significant change
we have some extra budget to buy ebooks for this crisis but just two of these would wipe out the whole lot AND is more than I normally have to spend one ONE WHOLE COURSE.

I am so mad.
I could be spending my time helping students get through this instead of wasting it
spending HOURS and HOURS searching across (I think the total is EIGHT now) different platforms to find some accessible content only to have no joy.

Raging. Absolutely raging
*waits for vendors and publishers to phone my boss to complain about me daring to speak up about this.*

They have a lot of money for lawyers.
to add insult to injury...most of these texts were £100-£200 before Christmas and for some inexplicable reason these publisher hiked them up to this insane pricing with NO answers. So infuriating.

Vendors....what the hell do you think you are doing hosting them?
You can follow @Hohojanna.
