Deku is a cat hybrid with a lively and high-spirited nature. Too playful for his own good. Back in the shelter, the handlers always had the hardest time with him. Even some of the other hybrids there
seemed to be scared of him. For a cat hybrid, Deku likes playing a lot. But this also leads him to a lot of trouble and mishaps. For this, some of his sheltermates avoided him, scared of getting into an accident. This doesn’t bother Deku that much, though, because the dog hybrids
were willing to play with him.

Deku also loves humans. He loves interacting with them whenever they visit the shelter, looking for potential hybrids to adopt. He’s always been a little social butterfly. The humans adore him as much as he admires them.
So when Shouto’s friends came over to play (or at least that’s what Deku thought), he was very ecstatic. Shouto is the younger brother of Deku’s guardian, Fuyumi. They’re not as close as Deku is to Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Touya. But that’s because Deku always thought Shouto’s just
quiet and awkward with everyone in general. It really surprised Deku when this quiet guy he practically grew up with brought friends who are loud and boisterous and definitely the complete opposite of him.

Much to the hybrid’s chagrin, Shouto’s friends didn’t come over to play,
but to study instead. Deku stayed in his cat form the whole time, watching everyone with curiosity. He’s watched his humans study before, and from what Deku noticed, they’re usually…silent and less chaotic. These strangers, however, seemed to be doing this studying thing very
differently. Not even half an hour since their arrival, the girl with pink hair was scrambling toward the direction of Deku’s hiding spot under the table in the corner of the living room. Then she’s picking him up, cooing at how cute and fluffy he is. Before long, everyone’s
dropped their books and notebooks and they’re fawning over the cat.

Deku took all their affection with soft purrs, loving how they’re petting him and stroking his fluffy fur. They’ve long since forgotten their task before Deku came into the scene, and Deku doesn’t find it in
himself to feel guilty at all. He’s always loved attention, and if these wonderful human beans are gonna give it to him freely, then he’s not about to spoil his own fun. Well, everyone’s showering him with affection except for one person. Deku takes one look to the side and finds
the familiar blond boy who looks like he’s perpetually pissed at the world. He doesn’t even give one glance at the cat, eyes not leaving the paper he’s holding.

Kacchan is a different case. He’s weird, Deku notes. Kacchan doesn’t seem to like animals. Or perhaps he’s not the
type to show affection that much. But after Deku’s misconception about Shouto, he doubts that’s the case at all.

Deku already met Kacchan before. Deku was in his cat form when Kacchan came over to pick something up from Shouto. Deku was splayed on the floor near the genkan.
Deku prides himself for having a healthy, clean, and shiny coat. It’s what the humans first notice about him. But on that day he first met Kacchan, the human just threw one glance at him then proceeded to step over his body. Deku never felt more offended.
How dare this human ignore his beautiful fur? How dare he ignore Deku?

Deku, who was used to attention, took it very personally. So since that day, he made it his mission to find out why Kacchan wasn’t all over him just like every other normal human bean.
He’d wait every day by the genkan for Shouto to arrive. He’d be in his hybrid form just so he could ask when that blond guy who committed a heinous crime of ignoring Deku will come back. And when he did come back. Deku quickly shifted to his cat form, making sure he groomed
himself properly. He circled around Katsuki’s feet, rubbing his face against the rough fabric of his pants (Deku hated it). He meowed, called out for him, tried to grab his attention, but the human acted like he wasn’t even there!
Deku did everything whenever Katsuki’s in their house. He’s even staring at him without looking away, hoping the human would feel his stare and finally give him the attention he deserved and needed.

“Ka-Kachuki…back?” Deku once asked when he was waiting for Shouto again.
The human just blinked at him, foot halfway out of his shoe. “What?”

“Kachuki, play,” Deku huffed, trying to act like he wasn’t demanding.

“Kachuki…?”

“Uhuh!”

“Who—oh. You mean Katsuki?” Shouto chortled, shaking his head, probably amused .
Deky nodded a little too excitedly, ears and tails pointed up. “Yuh! Play!”

“You wanna play with Katsuki, huh?”

“Kachuki, play!” Deku jumped. Okay, maybe, he’s genuinely a little interested in the human. Like, he’s warm and his shoulders looked very comfortable to settle on.
“Deku, Kachuki like!”

Shouto looked startled at this, but he had given Deku an amused smile. “You like him, huh? Is that why you’ve been staring at him everytime he comes over? Do you want to see him again?”

“Yes please!”

“Tomorrow?”

“Yuh! Play, Kachuki!”
“Mhm. I’ll tell him.” Shouto paused thoughtfully before shooting the hybrid a grin that Deku had never seen on this human’s face before. “And call him ‘Kacchan’, it’s easier.”
“Ka-Kacchan…?” Deku had beamed then, with a twinkle in his eyes that could only show how awestruck he was. A nickname he has claim on for the blond human heater. “Kacchan.”
— — —

“Oi, bastard. Your cat’s staring at me again.”

Katsuki uncomfortably shifts on his seat as he attempts to ignore the green cat on the other side of the room, pointedly staring at him without blinking. Katsuki didn’t even know that was possible.
From the corner of his eye, he sees the cat perk up on his spot under the table (he went back there after Katsuki screamed at everyone to go back to studying). This is the first time Katsuki’s acknowledging the cat’s presence and all the shit ton of weird things he’s doing.
Yes, Katsuki’s always been aware of the cat being affectionate to him or whatever the fuck you can call those.

You see, he’s never really been a cat person. He’s more of a snake person (no pun intended). He used to have a pet snake until it died for unknown reasons (Katsuki’s
still convinced his younger cousin killed Explodo). He’s not a huge fan of those furry animals.

“Okay,” Shouto shrugs.

Katsuki fumes. “The fuck do you mean ‘okay’? Make him stop, it’s fuckin’ creepy.” He shoots another furtive glance at the cat, clicking his tongue when he
realizes he’s still being watched.

“Dude,” Denki begins, pointing his pen at the cat. “I think he’s tryna, like, assert dominance and show aggression or something. I dunno.” He shrugs.

Shouto nods at this, albeit wearing a subtle amused expression. “Your hair and face make you
look like a threat to his territory.”

“The fuck?” Katsuki barks, glaring at Deku with incredulity. “I’m not even doing anything!” Besides, he’s the one who’s been doing weird shit to Katsuki ever since he first came over.
“You’re sitting on his favorite spot on the couch,” Shouto points out.

“You pushed me here, idiot!”

Shouto sighs dramatically and Katsuki does his best to restrain himself from punching this bastard’s face. “Look at him, he wants his spot back.”
Katsuki chances a glance at the cat and sure enough, Deku’s slowly making his way toward him cautiously.

Katsuki makes a disgruntled noise, scowl on his face deepening. “Where the hell would I sit then?”

As if on cue, they all look at the floor beside the coffee table.
“I fuckin hate you all.”

Once he’s settled on the floor, he doesn’t notice how the slowly approaching cat until he feels something soft rubbing his arm & a head nuzzling against his side. Katsuki freezes.

“Wait—”

“Did he just—”

“Eh? He was just glaring at you a minute ago!”
Then they all look at Shouto. The guy just shrugs, as fuckin’ usual. “Deku wasn’t glaring. He was actually curious. Besides, he probably likes Bakugou because he’s warm.”

Katsuki feels something warm within his chest upon hearing those words, but he opts to shrug it off.
He’s just flattered this cat chose him over these losers who call themselves his friends despite Katsuki not giving him attention.

Mina sulks beside Denki. “I’m jealous. Baku’s gonna be Deku’s personal heater now.”
— — —

Katsuki /did/ become Deku’s personal heater. He seems to be more relaxed around the human now that he finally acknowledged his presence.

Whenever Katsuki’s in the Todoroki household, Deku would be immediately by his side. He’d curl up on his lap and take a nap there,
immediately falling into a relaxed state. It’s his new favorite spot now, Shouto once said.

“Get your fucking cat, bitch.”

As much as Katsuki appreciates being...liked? by this cat, he also needs some personal space. The fact that he can’t even move his legs because he’s
/worried/ that he’ll disturb the cat pisses him off even more.

“It don’t bite.”

Katsuki throws a dirty glare at his best friend. “I’m serious, meme fucker.”

“But he looks comfy,” Shouto almost sounds a little sorry for the cat, but one look Katsuki takes at the other male
shows him his annoying shit-eating grin.

“Tch.”

“If you hate it so much, you could always just tell him. He can understand you.”

Katsuki pretends he doesn’t hear the mirth in his tone. “Whatever,” he grunts.
A few seconds pass before Shouto decides to open his big mouth again, spewing bullshit. “You like it.”

“Like hell.”

“You love it.”

“Just tell me the next goddamn question, fuck!”
— — —

As much as Katsuki hates to admit it, it doesn’t take long for him to warm up to the cat. How can he not? Deku’s a literal furball of warmth and affection. It’s hard to resist Deku’s charms, especially when the cat’s using them to Katsuki directly. It’s crazy but
sometimes Katsuki feels like Deku acts too much like a human trapped inside this furry animal.

The pride and happiness that bloom within his chest whenever Deku bounces straight toward him, paying no mind to his friends who would wear similar crestfallen expressions, as he
circles around Katsuki’s legs with his tail playfully stroking one leg. He’d look up at Katsuki with those huge round eyes, as if he’s asking to be picked up.

Katsuki wouldn’t usually listen to what he thinks because surely cats don’t like to be picked up, right? It’s one of
those times when Katsuki questions the cat’s...peculiarity? He would typically ignore those odd occurrences, telling himself that maybe the Todorokis just raised the cat like that.

One night, when Katsuki goes to Shouto’s house for a project he disgruntledly chose Shouto to
become his partner because he’s competent enough, Deku decides to creep into the living room where they’re working. He doesn’t immediately approach Katsuki like usual. He just stares at him from where he’s hiding under the table.
Katsuki ignores the shiver he felt. “What? You’re back to staring again?” He laughs, attempting to coax the cat out of his spot. “I thought we’re already done with that.”

“Meow.”

“I’m gonna be honest with you, I find the staring really creepy so cut it out.”
The cat perks up, slowly lifting himself up and walking toward Katsuki. “Meow.”

“What? What do you want?”

Another meow.

“Do you wanna sit here?” Katsuki points at his lap, getting a positive reaction from Deku. “Yes? C’mere then.”
When Shouto comes back from the bathroom, Deku’s already nestled between his thighs, soft purrs coming out of him as he sleeps peacefully. Katsuki unconsciously strokes his fur, rubbing on some areas he knows Deku likes.

“Oh? I must’ve left Fuyumi’s door open.”
“No shit.”

Shouto only looks at him warily, eyeing his hand petting Deku. “Do you want him to leave? I know this project is important to you, he might distract—”

“Nah, it’s fine,” he quickly cuts him off. “He’s a good boy.”
Shouto blinks. “What? Did he—”

“You’re a good boy, aren’t you, Deku?” Katsuki glances down, cooing at the cat who just nuzzles against his stomach.

Deku croons, his eyes slightly fluttering open before closing again as he buries his face further into Katsuki’s torso.
Shouto silently watches the exchange, not uttering a single word.

Katsuki doesn’t question him.

— — —

Katsuki gets his answer about Deku’s eccentricity one day when he and the losers came over to the Todoroki household once again to study.
Deku likes settling on his shoulders and curling around his neck, Katsuki discovers, and ever since then, it becomes Deku’s newest favorite spot, replacing the previous one which is his lap.

“Ya good up there, Deku?”
The cat could only purr as he rubs his furry tails against Katsuki’s hair affectionately.

“You’re getting soft, Baku.” It was Mina who finally speaks up about Katsuki’s obvious fondness for the cat.

“Hah?”
“Are you sure you’re not getting attached to that cat?” Denki teases, nudging him with an elbow.

It’s not like Katsuki’s embarrassed about it. He doesn’t really care what they think about him being all soft and shit to a cat he used to ignore.
Still, his automatic response would always be: “I’m not attached. He is.”

“And you’re letting him.” Mina points her pen at him accusingly.

“You’re even willingly petting him now!” Denki adds with a whiny voice.
“And you’re the one coming to him first unlike before — shut your mouth, don’t even try to deny that.” Mina narrows her eyes. “The moment we entered, you went straight to Deku who was sleeping until you disturbed him.”
Katsuki feels warmth flowing in his cheeks for getting cornered like this. “I didn’t disturb him. He was already waking up when I sat beside him.”

“Nah, man. Look, he’s asleep now. He’s probably exhausted.”
Katsuki glares at Denki. “Cats take a lot of naps. It’s normal, dumbass.” He knows his friend is dumb, but he’s supposed to know basic shit like this.

“Eh? But isn’t Deku a hybrid?”

Katsuki goes rigid.

“What?”

“He is,” Shouto confirms.
“The fuck?” He stares at each one of them, realizing that he’s apparently the only one who doesn’t know this important information. “Am I the only one who doesn’t know?”

Is that why Deku’s been weirdly human-like since the beginning? Because he’s a freakin’ hybrid?
What are hybrids like anyway? Katsuki doesn’t know shit about them aside from the things they teach in school.

Denki gives him a deadpanned look. “Dude, Shouto literally told us when he showed Deku’s photo.”

When the hell did that even happen?
“That’s why we insisted on studying here in the first place,” Mina supplies helpfully.

“The hell?” Katsuki mutters, mind working a mile a minute. “Why isn’t he ever in his human form then?
“Hybrid form,” Shouto corrects. “Fuyumi said it takes time for cat hybrids to show their hybrid form to new people. He probably isn’t comfortable enough with you guys.”

“Even Baku? Man, that sucks.”

“More reason to come over then!”
Katsuki doesn’t listen to their conversation anymore, opting to tune them out.

Deku’s a hybrid. A hybrid.

Man, it’s gonna be weird talking to him now knowing he’s also a half-human? who can understand Katsuki clearly.

Katsuki wonders what Deku looks like in his hybrid form.
— — —

Katsuki doesn’t get to see Deku’s hybrid form until almost a month later when Shouto calls him, telling him he found Katsuki’s missing hoodie. Since that day Katsuki learned about Deku being a hybrid, the human’s been a little more aware of the cat. He feels hair stand up
on the back of his neck whenever Deku stares at him from his favorite spot on the corner. He flinches whenever he doesn’t see Deku coming up to him and nuzzling his face against Katsuki’s side.

Deku must’ve noticed Katsuki hesitance and sudden detachment because one day he just
stops approaching him. He’s still the same playful cat they met in the beginning, but he’s been getting closer to Denki and Mina, and getting a little distant from Katsuki.

Katsuki doesn’t know how to feel about that, in all honesty. It’s a little disappointing, maybe, because
he thought he & Deku already built a strong relationship. Do cat hybrids easily move on from bonds? Are they different from dog hybrids in that aspect?

It’s gonna be awkward seeing Deku w/o the others to distract the cat from Katsuki — well, that’s what Katsuki thought anyway.
Because the moment the door opens, instead of Shouto greeting him, it was a green-haired boy with cat ears nestled cutely on top of his head who almost tackles him down.

“Kacchan!”

“What—oof!”
Eh? Stunned, Katsuki could only blink at the short boy who has him wrapped around oddly strong arms. “The hell? Who is—Deku?” Katsuki tries to push the other off in hopes of getting a clear view of his face, but the hybrid only tightens his hold, face nuzzling Katsuki’s chest.
And he’s purring. He’s fucking purring in his hybrid form. Fuck, if that ain’t the cutest sound Katsuki has heard—

“Uhuh!” Deku tilts his head up to gaze at Katsuki with those damn eyes. “Kacchan, Deku love!”
Katsuki’s brain short-circuits. Fuck, he’s beautiful. And he’s got freckles, holy shit, even in his hybrid form??? Sweet baby Jesus.

“What…? W-what are you saying? Where’s the bastard?”

Katsuki has long given up pulling away, realizing Deku’s not gonna let go of him.
He’s short, Katsuki notes, just the perfect height for hugging. He feels his face getting hot as Deky continues rubbing his face against Katsuki’s clothed chest, mumbling ‘Kacchan’ over and over again, happiness practically seeping off of his tone.

“Mhm?”
Katsuki gulps as Deku’s hair tickles his chin. “The bastard, Shou—”

“Oh you finally met him.”

Katsuki’s head snaps to the right, only to find Shouto leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, smirking at the human and the hybrid.
“Dude.” Katsuki ignores the pleading tone in his voice.

“You look good together,” Shouto says teasingly.

Katsuki’s face burns even further.

“S-Shut up and get him off of me, man.”

“But he looks comfy. Besides, you’re his new human now.”
Katsuki makes a face, confused. “What does that even mean?”

Shouto just shrugs.

“Where’s my hoodie? Give it, so I can go home.”
“If you want your hoodie, then just go take Deku home. I don’t think Fuyumi would get mad if he sleeps over for one night. And Deku misses you.” Shouto says all this as if he’s talking about the weather. Is he serious? Does he even know what the hell he’s saying?
“W-What the hell are you saying?! Just gi—”

“Kacchan?”

Said male freezes before slowly looking down, and that’s when he notices that Deku’s actually wearing his hoodie.

Holyfuckingshit.
“Kacchan...Deku keep?” He tilts his head to the side, his lips jutting out in an adorable pout. “Kacchan mine?”

Katsuki throws all care about the state of his face at this point. Who the fuck cares if he’s blushing like a goddamn teenager?
“Deku’s pretty stubborn,” Shouto interrupts their little moment. “I dunno if he’ll give your hoodie back. He already scented it.”

Scented. Shit. He already staked his claim on it.

Katsuki clears his throat, trying to sound nonchalant. “Whatever, he can have it.”
“Oh? Just an hour ago you were cursing me for “stealing” your hoodie and now Deku can keep it? Interesting,” Shouto hums, giving Katsuki /the look/.

He swears if he’s out of Deku’s hold, he’s gonna kill this bastard.

“It’s not even my favorite.”
“Whatever you say.”

Silence falls between them for a moment that Katsuki almost forgot he’s being held by Deku.

“Kacchan?”

“Fuck.”

Weak. Katsuki’s weak for this hybrid. Dammit.
“Fuck?” Deku asks, head perking up curiously. His furry tail starts to sway from side to side. His lips curl as he tests the word. “Kacchan fuck? Kacchan, Deku fuck? Fuck!” Deku says excitedly, eyes twinkling with innocence.

Katsuki’s choking. Shouto’s guffawing.
“Holy shit.”

“Oh my god.”

And suddenly Natsuo and Touya appear out of nowhere. “Keep your paws off of our kitty, Bakugou!”

“I’m not even touching him!” Katsuki cries out.

Legend says those were the last words the neighbors heard before chaos ensued.
