I’m getting increasingly grumpy about all the talk of Boris getting back to work ASAP etc. I don’t care about Boris, I care about this attitude people have that they need to get back to normal as soon as they can after an illness.
I have ME/chronic fatigue syndrome. Before lockdown I was only well enough to leave the house for medical appointments and a few scenic drives (as a passenger).
My health is rubbish. I’m permanently tired. Not normal tired that a healthy person might experience, I mean bone aching fatigue that makes even the slightest task like climbing a mountain. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
Where am I going with this? Well, there’s this thing called post viral fatigue, which you guessed it, is feeling exhausted long after an illness gets better. This may last weeks, months or years. It may never get better.
If you are feeling exhausted long after your covid symptoms are gone, don’t push yourself! Don’t think that forcing yourself to be active is the best thing. You need to let your body rest and recover. You do not want to push yourself into collapse.
If you don’t look after yourself in the short term, you could very well make yourself more ill. I promise that you really don’t want to feel as bad as I do, it is unrelenting and depressing.
Also, some people will get post viral fatigue regardless of what they do in their recovery and it really worries me. :(

Please look after yourselves. Listen to your body.
