Seeing Liverpool and Everton fans argue about everything not just football hurts my heart
Let's get a few truths out of the way here and if you want to ask me, an honest Liverpool fan any questions in this thread then do so
Everton in the community is better than Liverpool

I've lost count of the amount of times that EITC have done something for my city that has made me so grateful, from kids, to the poor, to the vulnerable.
With this said, neither are socialist clubs and have never been.

While I'm no economist, I can definitively tell you that Liverpool exist due to a rent dispute between the two clubs and both clubs exist to make money and are privately funded.
This is how capitalism works.

Given both teams have to succeed to financially prosper or even exist, they are capitalist entities.
Everton do understand the community better, in every way but one it would seem and I'd argue it's as important as any other way.

Liverpool fans joke with Everton fans about their lack of success and sadly the majority of Everton fans take this so personally that they then verbally attack Liverpool fans.
Even using the deaths of other football fans to score points and assign us the label "murderers"

SOME Liverpool fans then clap back with Steau Bucharest and the vicious circle is complete as those fans become no better than those who attacked in the first place.
SOME Everton fans need this excuse to take away from lack of success on the pitch, but that's no excuse

SOME Liverpool fans say they need the SB chants and banners to have something to say as a response.
I'll admit, I've even liked it myself in my angrier moments but I was wrong.
In the end all we do is damage each other and the city as a whole!

WE are better than this.
When we attack each other, THEY win.
Who are they? Anyone that wants to see this city in the mud, failing, being what they say it is from outside.
We are passionate people but sometimes that passion manifests in ugly ways.

As a boy, I was nearly an Everton fan. My gran a Liverpool fan, my brother a blue. Had my brother not gone off the the navy, who knows?
As a boy, Liverpool and Everton were close I remembered the pride I had watching FA Cup finals as we sang as one "Merseyside" "Merseyside"

It mattered who won, but what mattered more was we travelled up there together. We came home together. We celebrated and commiserated together.
We were one. Red and blue against it all.
What stops this now?

Pettiness. A blame game, whataboutery and one event in 1985. And yet for those that blame the events of Heysel, I'm not sure they are right, at least not in its immediacy.
I was only a kid but I didn't notice a huge shift in the way Liverpool were viewed by Everton fans.

Maybe someone older can tell me if I'm wrong but it didn't seem until much later that the true hatred and "murderer" chants from our own blue neighbours began
Then of course there was Hillsborough in 89 and as usual when a crisis hits, the city came together, red and blue.

Again, together we showed that we can beat anyone, even the government, a lying, manipulative, evil entity.
Together though, we got our justice (at least to some degree).
This is why they want us apart, scrapping with each other. Simple divide and conquer.

Really though, what is stopping us coming together as a city again?
People say there's too much hatred, too much water under the bridge.
I may even have agreed but two things make me pause for thought.

HOPE. A four letter word and yet, without it all is lost.
We still have it. Even in these times, it remains.
The other is a documentary on Rwanda I watched.

I won't go into the full history. I will simply say there were two tribes in Rwanda and one day one was instructed to wipe the other out
It's worth noting the reason that the division existed between the two of them was again an outside influence, in this case King Leopold

The Belgians turned the country against itself by in layman's terms giving one side everything and the other nothing
Despite however this and the genocide that followed, Rwandans did something remarkable
They decided that peace was more important than what went before

It might be the most singularly incredible story I have heard in my life time.
The Hutu were government led and had been instructed to wipe the Tutsis out and yet with 800,000 dead on both sides, they decided that forgiveness and peace was more important than anything

This is the most extreme example I can think of and some people might say, it's too extreme for the situation I'm comparing it to, but that's the point
If the people of Rwanda can literally live in harmony after THAT
Then don't tell me we are too far gone to come together

For me, Everton will always be important to this city.
They will always be rivals but you can respect your rivals, yourself and your sport.
We don't need to sink to the level of calling each other, stick to the game.

I'll leave you with my favourite Liverpool Everton memory.
When Liverpool and Everton came back from Wembeley, in 86. I couldn't see the buses.
My brother, an Everton fan, held me on his shoulders so I could see my heroes and the heroes of our city from both sides.

All it takes is each of us thinking about what is best for our communities and our city as a whole.
Liverpool and Everton say "we're different". We were once, we sat side by side at the match and the rest of the country laughed.
We could be different again.
