Can anyone truly tell me why Black Sails didn't win boatloads of more awards? And please, please don't let it be just because mcfucking Game of Thrones kept sweeping everything. The writing, the costumes, the choreography, the music-- everything about Black Sails is perfection
I will *never* get tired of listening to that theme music (Bear McCreary is a genius there is no disputing this fact)

Every character is deep, complex, and outstandingly acted

Black Sails saw the bury your gays trope and took a piss on it
The most accurate and detailed portrayal of sailing I've ever seen in a series-- seriously, you will learn more about how a ship is run by watching this show than if you read all the Horatio Hornblower novels
(paraphrased quote from my partner, that)
And! It's! Gorgeous! With strong female characters who aren't afraid to stand up to the men around them! With men who have emotional depth and trauma and a sharp wit! All in this beautiful tropical setting, or aboard the ships, or in a dungeon, or out at sea--
You are never struggling to see what's going on. You're not left wondering what happened to so and so, why did they die, etc. The narrative makes *sense* and it keeps pace with itself at a breakneck speed-- and it doesn't falter! There are no loopholes!
There are no unresolved mysteries or strange subversions that distract from the plot or the characters in it! My

IT'S GAY & BI AND IT'S ACCURATE TO THE HISTORICAL TIME PERIOD WITHOUT GIVING EVERYONE A TERRIBLE ENDING AND WITHOUT MUDDYING THE NAMES OF THE REAL PEOPLE IT PORTRAYS
I would give my KINGDOM for a sequel, even in the form of a Treasure Island remake, with the same incredible writers, cast, crew, and costumers. Not that the series ending was unsatisfactory-- it was extremely sound and well played! I just want *more*.
Tl;dr Black Sails is divinity-tier level television and I want more historical gay pirates in my life
