Julian of Norwich (late 1342 – after 1416) was an English anchorite. I consider her one our England& #39;s first & #39;bloggers& #39;: she wrote the earliest surviving book in the English language to be written by a woman, Revelations of Divine Love. She lived in permanent seclusion.
I& #39;ve been always fascinated by theology and mysticism (as well as & #39;natural magic& #39;- Meister Eckhart and Agrippa were dear readings of my youth. It was a student @uniofeastanglia Norwich many supermoons ago that I first learned of Julian.
Though I was lucky to make many dear friends in Norwich (hello, @karlwhitney, @drfigtree et al!) I also spent many hours reading in the library or my room, which did resemble a cell. I read Julian and all of Sebald. My room& #39;s window resembled Sebald& #39;s hospital window.
The silence in Norwich (even when the wind howled like I had only heard as special effects in horror films) could be overwhelming. The Grad Bar was often a lifeline- the solitude could get into you- there were stories of students hearing voices that were not there (like Julian).
Anyway that& #39;s the context for the first installment of The Lockdown Chronicles, which features Julian of Norwich, ICYMI. https://epriego.blog/2020/04/07/the-lockdown-chronicles-julian/">https://epriego.blog/2020/04/0...
As usual typos remained in this thread, and it will continue to be the case until Twitter allow us to edit tweet after publishing. Until then, we& #39;ll all have to lower our standards ;)
