First two @Akamai #EdgeLive Q&A sessions I had video/audio failures; and weird intermittent network failures. An afternoon of debugging, couldn’t find the problem; but it looked a lot like this other problem. Uh-oh. 1/ https://twitter.com/csoandy/status/1241550707846778881
Fortunately, after the last one, I’d ordered a @ubnt network package (Dream Machine, 5 switches, 5 APs). I tried to drop in the DM & replace 1 switch, no go. Unplugged whole network. Connected 1 cable to router, to 1 switch, to 1 cable, to laptop. Success! 2/
Well, success for the Q&A tonight, but the rest of the house didn’t have a network. But, hey, time to build a new one! Piece by piece, adding the @UBNT components one at a time; eventually found the cable that, when plugged in, shut down everything. Left it for last… 3/
Finally figured out that cable patched up to … my office! That’s not a good sign. That switch has three computers, an Xbox, and a TiVo mini hardwired, and two @onepeloton devices wirelessly. This might be fun…. 4/
Swapped in new Switch next to old one, and notice one port on old switch is flickering a lot. It’s my MacBook Air’s port.

Which is closed.

And … not plugged in to its USB-C hub?

That’s … weird. 5/
Calling it a night - but why would a USB-C hub, when only plugged into power & network, generate traffic that DoSes your LAN devices?
Bright side: brand new wireless network all over the house!
