I have a sheet w/population data out to 2050 for cities that at/passing 100k by then (494!) Since the 2020 census is coming up, I figured I would share a little data for what 2020's should look like.
OR, reply to this thread a city/state and I'll show you my 2020 data for it. 1/7
First up is the "1 million club". This should be 11 cities large in 2020, with San Jose and Austin being new members. Austin is growing faster, but San Jose should have a small population advantage for 10th. Phoenix and possibly San Antonio should pass Philly too. 2/7
Right below them is a five city group in the 900k's within about 10k of each other. The placement of Ft Worth, San Fran, and Charlotte are pretty interchangeable. Also worth noting: ALL of them should have more than 1 million people by 2030. 3/7
Assuming Detroit continues its current shrinkage, it should fall to 28th- wedged between Las Vegas (or maybe Memphis) and Louisville. 4/7
Someone will (inevitably) ask, so here's the cities most likely to be 69th largest. If my data is on spot, it should be Irvine, but I wouldn't rule out it being Orlando, Pittsburgh, Greensboro, or Cincinnati. 5/7
In the 2010 census, San Bernardino, California was the 100th largest city. It's decently likely to be the case again, with an outside chance it ends up being Modesto. 6/7
Finally, here's the cities that will either be just barely over 100k or very close to it. Some interesting selections here- a Spokane suburb, The first two Indianapolis Suburbs, TWO cities in NEW MEXICO- even Idaho makes an appearance! 7/7
