(Thread) People keep tweeting things like “I don’t wanna hear your excuses for why you didn’t xyz during quarantine. You had plenty of time to pick up *language*, *skill*, *complete project*” but it’s simply not applicable to everyone, or even most people.
This is a collective trauma, and I know some may roll their eyes at that, but those people are probably very privileged. This is an extremely stressful period and stress literally makes learning and memory malfunction. It also impacts interest and motivation, and to be honest..
We’re all just very tired. We are thriving on the short bursts social media can provide, because it’s what got us through a spare hour, but not a whole day. So now we’re constantly overwhelmed and struggling to break habits that previously served us.
This is a tough transition, and not only that — a short one. Sure, we may develop healthy changes to our lives such as cooking in, reading more, going for walks outside, but nothing says those changes come easily. Not to mention the different family dynamics, such as kids!
Yes — be hopeful and look forward. Yes — take breaks from social media and meditate.
Sure — watch videos on how to play guitar or pick up your old instrument.
Why not — learn some phrases in a new language.
But don’t let NOT doing those things make you feel like a failure.
Tldr; try to accomplish things that will make you feel good looking back on your isolation time, but don’t let the stress of trying to “be productive” stress you out more. Just do what’s right for you. What ever you need to get through this is perfectly fine. But do drink water.
