đź””PLEASE SHAREđź””Last Sunday afternoon, my dog was viciously mauled by two large dogs while my parents were taking her for their daily walk (Pimpama). My dog suffered severe puncture wounds to her neck, jaw, right hind leg, left side and had extensive injuries to lower back. (1/7)
She had to be rushed to the Animal Emergency Service centre to receive treatment. She suffered gaping wounds up to 15 cm across her lower back and needed stitches for several parts of her body. The true extent of her injuries are too graphic to post and extremely upsetting. (2/7)
My parents were not bitten but sustained injuries in the struggle to protect our dog. Luckily, two passers-by witnessed the incident and called the police. We have since filed a dog attack #complaint to @cityofgoldcoast. (3/7)
The attack was completely unprovoked. The dogs had escaped from their home and were roaming the streets off-leash and unsupervised. They attacked suddenly from behind and gave zero warning (e.g. growling, barking, etc.). My parents and dog were caught entirely off-guard. (4/7)
I am worried for other dogs in the neighbourhood and young children since there is a childcare centre nearby, where the incident occurred. Additionally, we noticed that our dog is traumatised and fearful of large dogs due to this attack. (5/7)
I believe it is the owners’ duty to take responsibility of their pets and ensure that they do not harm others. In addition, the owners should be held accountable for the consequences of their negligence. (6/7)
This horrible incident has caused me and my family so much pain, stress and anxiety. We treat our dog as part of the family. I hope this thread is shared to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership. Please stay safe and take care of your pets! (7/7)
