Hey guys ! I’d like to make a little post to educate all of you on what kind of work/budget it takes to make a cartoon. I wanted to make this post because I think if the mainstream public understood #animation a little more, maybe people would also understand (thread)
How important it is to support indie creators.
I’m going to estimate very roughly, that on the average/cheaper side, you’re looking at about $5000 per minute to make an Internet cartoon. Animation, from what I’ve seen around, can cost anywhere from $20 to $50 per second,
And same goes for animation cleanup. So we’re already looking at a $40-$200 per second budget.
Backgrounds honestly vary a lot between artists, and since so far I only know my own rates because I do my own backgrounds I’m not gonna disclose that here.
But backgrounds are a massive part of a budget. Then onto that, you add music and sound design and voice acting.
I’m lucky enough to be able to do both backgrounds and animation cleanup by myself, so if I work like a madwoman, I can save a lot of costs that way.
But what I mean is, if you guys want indie creators to be able to continue making cartoons on the internet, please support them ! If everyone donated just $1 to their favorite creator, it would add up so fast and would REALLY make a difference.
And this doesn’t go just for me, I’m talking about pretty much anyone making cartoons online. Us artists work extremely hard on our own freelance work, but with what I’ve listed so far I think you can understand why it’s pretty much impossible
For us to make long high quality cartoons without support. I hope this didn’t come off as begging for funds, because I really meant for it to be educational - I’ve noticed not a lot of people realize just how much goes into making cartoons, and I think
It’s really important for people to be educated on the matter more in a world where Internet cartoons have such a big place ! If you love #animation and want to spread the world to educate more people please give this thread a Retweet <3
