Hello world. Just wanted to remind you that a panel of experts, convened by the B.C. govt, have been studying the design & implementation of basic income for nearly 2yrs. I am sure you will all read our report since you won’t forget about this important topic after the pandemic
Our final report, which is underway and being partially influenced by events, is a deep dive, deeper than Quebec’s dive, into a BI informed by research conducted by academic experts across Canada. Our 5! Volumes and ~40 commissioned papers will all be public. When? IDK. Why?
Many of us lost data access because of the pandemic and are having to change up on the fly ourselves.
I will say that me and my team, in charge of 11 input papers (!) focused our analysis on what the current system and programs looks like, what that means, it’s strengths and weaknesses, and what necessary reforms must be made before a basic income is possible.
If you want to tell us a basic income is simple and easy, I’ll tell you to back yourself up because
I might end by saying when the panel was formed 2 years ago a not insignificant number of people mocked the @BCGreens for their pursuit of a basic income and the @bcndp for thinking a basic income could inform system redesign. Whose laughing now?
