NEW THREAD: Puerto Rico officials are going to start randomly performing rapid coronavirus tests on passengers, arriving at the San Juan airport, due to a concern that passengers arriving with symptoms of the virus are lying when questioned.
Here's what happened recently:👇🏻
According to the head of the Puerto Rico national guard two individuals from New York, who were traveling separately, and didn't know each other, arrived on the airport last week after taken medication for fever. I wasn't told what medication they took.
Said individuals had their temperature taken twice. Once by the cameras in the airport which take peoples temperature without them knowing it, and again by workers who have thermometers and manually put it up to a persons forehead to take the temperature.
Each time, I'm told, that the temperature reading was below the 100.3 that would signal an alarm and lead to further screening. The 2 individuals were asked to sign, as all people arriving at the airport are now, a document saying where they were going & how they could be reached
They were also provided with a number to the health department that they could call if they started to feel symptoms consistent with coronavirus. Again all of what I'm telling you comes from the head of Puerto Rico's national guard, General Jose Reyes.
The two individuals called the number to say they were feeling ill and essentially admitted that they arrived not feeling well. Those two individuals are now hospitalized in Puerto Rico, and according to the general, we're both reported to be on ventilators at last check.
General Reyes has first-hand information about what's happening because his soldiers are the ones overseeing the effort at the airport to screen passengers when they arrive. They are being helped by medical students from the University of Puerto Rico.
