RIP to John Prine. Wrote this for @nprmusic about a master. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/07/750894794/john-prine-obituary">https://www.npr.org/2020/04/0...
It was truly an honor to see John Prine a few years ago at a festival ( @RootsNBluesFest), because that meant we got to see him AND Emmylou duet on "Angel From Montgomery." I mean, my God.
I also have to share this clip of Michael Stipe + @billybragg covering "Hello In There" on @MountainStage back in & #39;91, as it was a formative cover for me. @remhq covered this song here and there in that era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLVvNPzAAk4">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
This, from @RightByHerRoots& #39; 2018 John Prine chat: "I think I& #39;ve finally, after 72 years, gotten used to my voice, and it sounds like a friend now instead of an enemy. I sound like that old guy down the street that doesn& #39;t chase you out of his apple tree." https://www.npr.org/2018/04/13/601799781/talking-about-heaven-john-prine-proves-that-old-trees-grow-stronger">https://www.npr.org/2018/04/1...
"He hadn& #39;t been well, off and on, for many years, but he also seemed oddly indestructible. Everyone& #39;s love and need for his presence wove protection around him." Beautiful truth -- and wonderful John Prine piece from @annkpowers here: https://www.npr.org/2020/04/07/823700634/john-prines-songs-saw-the-whole-of-us">https://www.npr.org/2020/04/0...
