Japan fails again! 100% of everyone should be teleworking! Except for medical workers. And Amazon warehouse grunts. And delivery drivers. And supermarket staff. And Uber Eats people. And convenience store clerks. And firefighters and police. And farmers. And utility workers. And

I agree that too many people who shouldn't be on trains and buses probably still are. Companies need to do a better job of this. But in a megalopolis of 40 million we're bound to have millions who have to be out and about to keep the whole thing creaking along.

I personally am one of the luckiest people in Japan at this point. Working from home 100% of the time for weeks now, full salary funded by annual grant, and both my teaching jobs are going to online instruction for the coming semester. This puts me in a tiny minority, though.
