He also belittled hospital workers who spoke up after being told by bosses they wouldn't get PPE all shift, calling it "political theater". Easy to say from your "Command Center" Joe. No one should have to choose btw wearing a garbage bag, or leaving their patient without care. https://twitter.com/natogreen/status/1247689395265662977
CEO Delvecchio Finley claimed in the same meeting to have "investigated" the garbage-bag-wearing nurse and said he talked to "her". The nurse was a male nurse like me.
Delvecchio claimed today, as AHS has repeatedly claimed, "we have enough PPE". Why then, could we not find face shields in the ER yesterday and why are disinfecting wipes being rationed? Why is AHS turning down donations?
We've been short on equipment for years. Way before COVID. This pandemic just makes it more obvious.
In public comment at the hearing today, my coworker Tonya said Delvecchio showed up in the ER the other night and got an earful from workers, who reported that he was "surprised" about their reports of short staffing and lack of equipment.
Either he's not being honest, or he's incredibly out of touch. The ER is less than two minutes walk from his office, and we've told him and the Board for YEARS about the same problems.
There's something wrong when the $800,000/year CEO doesn't know what's been happening for years in the workplace he's responsible for. Shameful.
Delvecchio claims to be "embedding" with our EVS housekeepers. The same ones he demoted and did layoffs of a few months ago. He sends us letters about racial justice. How about not demoting and laying off your 99% POC EVS workers as a start?
How about providing BASIC supplies and staffing to our patients, also mostly people of color.
How about fixing this persistent and shameful problem: by your own numbers, 90% of the workers you terminate are people of color.
We imagine it's frustrating to hear problems from all directions, but now more than ever our lives are on the line, just like our families & patients. Stop disrespecting our EVS workers by pretending to be one (you aren't) provide us with the basics to take care of our patients.
