Yes.
The social determinants of health are far greater than anything within our individual power.
We've all been sold a lie for years that if we eat "right" and exercise and whatever, it's in your hands to be "healthy"...
It's a lie and it's been killing peeps for forever. https://twitter.com/cspan/status/1247664933782814723
I imagine, however, because I am a jaded fuck, that the result of this will not look at the intersections of stigma and poverty and access to care, or the results of stress, daily grinding unbelievable stress on bodies.
Instead there's gonna be workout videos & new diets.
Because it's easier to point to body size as individual failing than it is to admit you support a racist, misogynistic, stigmatizing system when you do so, or that your "solution" for a "disease" that doesn't exist has a documented failure rate of over 95%.
I mean, even Fauci listed *b*sity as a health problem.
Fever isn't a health problem. It's a symptom. It's a body's reaction to shit.
And some people, they just run hotter (or colder, like me! 97.1 is my usual temp).
But we'll make another "epidemic" instead of fixing the system
I hope I'm wrong. I hope this horrible plague results in sweeping reforms of our health care systems, our prisons, our communities.
I hope we don't just end up blaming people for their own deaths.
That's my hope.
