#COVID19 Burden of Disease and Health Footprint
Here, I will go through the 4 separate surges that will burden our health system. We must be prepared for all waves of impact and strategize collateral damage.

Inspired by @VectorSting
1st Wave:
This is the immediate health impact from #COVID19 w/ burden of cases & hospital bed capacity shown. 2nd surge of cases of #COVID19 will be when we loosen restrictions without vaccination / immunity – not as numerous as the first outbreak.
2nd Wave:
This is the influx of urgent non-COVID conditions, such as cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and surgical cases (some of which are currently being deferred)
3rd Wave:
Patients w/ chronic diseases- such as hypertension, diabetes, HIV are currently finding a lapse in care with interrupted access. Are these patients suddenly becoming better managed? Unlikely – and we have yet to see the impact.
4th Wave:
COVID19 biopsychosocial effects. Depression from death of friends/family, isolation, economic/productivity lost. Providers experiencing burnout. PTSD from extreme situations. This wave will last longer. We MUST anticipate this wave for our health system to survive.
All together:
#COVID19 Burden of Disease and Health Footprint
This outbreak will have an unprecedented impact on society. We need to think through and be prepared for each wave, starting now. Most importantly, we must be there for one another; love one another.
