Thread Unemployment: I wanna know who’s filed, what state and what’s the process been like for you.

1. In California the system isn’t updated for COVID-19. Millions filed bc of it but some are rejected when they say “no” to looking for a job. How can people look for jobs?

2. Gig workers, independent contractors etc were told they’d be included. Guess what? The system isn’t including them. They’re awaiting confirmation from the federal government. These people are in dire need. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-04-06/freelance-coronavirus-unemployment-pay

3. As I stated in 1, some people are laid off but will return to their job after the pandemic so they aren’t looking for a job. The system is supposed to allow that but it’s not & it’s disqualifying people for it & the offices work M-F 8 AM-noon & lines are busy always.

I recommend right now asking people what they’ve done or saying you’re looking for a job & provide proof bc the old system usually disqualified you if you’re not.

4. People are not getting their EDD customer account number or pin. It’s supposed to be mailed to you but I’ve seen countless people say it’s not been.

5. To certify fast online you need that number. You can call using a pin. To get a pin you need to know how much you’re making

Ultimately what I’m gathering is that CARE act which was supposed to cover everyone is not giving directions from fed to states so many are rejected. This is unacceptable. Document your stories here. We have to get them out. And hold these people accountable or bust.

6. If you got a paper certification use that and fill it out. But if you have questions you may be SOL bc they don’t answer the phone. People call hundreds of times and maybe a few get in.

7. The system is down & not updated. Some get “information doesn’t match our account. ”
