My theory about this scene:

Sorry it’s lengthy. And yeah I thought this out like crazy... sad to think that it’s wrong.

Dina doesn’t die. I think whatever happens at Jackson causes her to get injured. What if that gun shot we heard in the release date trailer was actually a gun that was fired at Dina, but maybe she wasn’t killed. She might have a bullet wound and she’s recovering at Ellie’s house-

so Ellie can watch after her and make sure she’s ok.

Also, I believe that in this scene Ellie is thinking about going off on her “revenge quest” which is why she seems so lost in thought. She wants to get back at the people who hurt Dina/raided Jackson.

Then, while lost in thought, Ellie hears a knock at the door. She gets up and opens it. It’s Tommy. I think this is where this scene comes in:

I believe that there’s medical supplies in the box he’s holding. This is kinda going off topic, but it’ll help strengthen my theory:

We don’t know if Anna was a firefly, but she’s a nurse and so is Marlene (leader). If Tommy is an ex-firefly wouldnt it make sense for him to have medical background? This would also strengthen the idea that Anna actually is a firefly but that’s another theory for another day.

Summary so far: Dina is injured by a bullet from the Jackson raid, she’s recovering at Ellie’s house so Ellie can watch over her, Ellie hears at knock at the door and finds out it’s Tommy with medical supplies who’s there to do a “check up” on Dina to see how she’s doing.

They go back to the room Dina’s in and Ellie stands watching Tommy check Dina’s wound. Then, when he’s finished, they both leave and Ellie closes the door behind them. They walk into the living room, Tommy sits on the couch, Ellie stands, thus getting to these scenes:

This is where she breaks the news to Tommy that she’s going after whoever she wants to go after or she at least asks him what he thinks she should do. Maybe she even asks him to come with her, which is probably what this picture is with Jesse. Maybe Jesse went with Ellie instead

Ok I’m getting off topic, ANYWAYS UM

Then, after Ellie gets stressed out and says “WhAT ArE YoU DoInG” when Tommy either refuses or tells her not to do it instead of supporting her rage filled thoughts, this is where this next scene comes in:

I just picture Tommy calming Ellie down and telling her not to do it and she sits next to him and they just stare into space, thinking about the attack and what they’re going to do and Ellie makes a comment.
