A Kagehina drabble
-Set after the timeskip-
-Ft touch starved Kageyama bc i said so-
Note:
I haven't read the manga properly yet, so I'm going off the anime and snippets I've seen! Sorry for any inaccuracies!!
The whistle blew, a long, near enough painful sound- depending which team you were on. The match was over, and Alders had won, beating MSBY 3-2.

But Hinata couldn't think about their loss, he couldn't be bitter when he could see Kageyama past the net, looking at him with that
classic, stupid grin.

Yet he couldn't help but grin right back at him.

'I haven't lost yet.'

He smirked, still panting, his eyes challenging him to yet another chance to prove he was better, and the look on Kageyama's face told him he accepted that offer.
He was still the king- or had become the king again, only now it seemed to be of his own inhibition.

He looked happy like that, confident, like he knew the aura he radiated.

It was so disinct that Hinata could almost see the crown sat upon his head, the way light seemed to
interact with him in a way it did not with others.

Hinata didn't see him as better, he would never admit to it even if he started to.

But that godlike presence of his would never cease to get his adrenaline pumping.
Sometimes, Hinata would wonder if their contest would ever really end, or if it would be a case of endlessly pushing eachother further and further.

Either way, he wasn't going to let Kageyama take the win.

"Hey, Sho!"

He was snapped back to reality by his teammates who were
getting ready to line up.

Just as he was about to leave their interaction at that, Hinata heard Kageyama speak up.

"Meet me outside once you cool off- don't be long, boke." He grinned, the old insult sounding almost like a term of endearment- to anyone but the two, of course.
"Sure thing Boke-yama." Hinata rolled his eyes, laughing quietly as his teammates continued to yell his name.

"Oho, what was that about, hm?" Bokuto nudged him, smirking a little.

"What was what?"

"Those glares."

"What glares?"

There was a sigh.
"You're hopeless, forget it."

Of course, Hinata couldn't forget it, that was part of his nature.

He couldn't help but wonder what Bokuto meant.
Stretching off flew by quickly, Hinata found himself outside faster than he had anticipated.

Maybe becasue he was excited, in a way. This was his old partner in crime afterall, and it looked like the chemistry Takeda-sensei had mentioned so long ago now wasn't gone, either.
There was still something, still a connection that let them comminicate without words.

Karasuno would never leave them, and neither would the bonds they formed there.

Hinata's train of thought was interrupted not too long later.
"Oi."

He spun around, and goddamnit, he never thought he'd be so happy seeing Kageyama's dumb face.

"Heya."

He smiled, that residing tension still buzzing around in the background, giving it all a feeling similar to static electricity.

"Have you grown any? I can't tell."
Kageyama joked, flashing his lopsided grin as he watched Hinata grow irritated.

Of course he grew, both in height and as a person. He could tell that much just from the way he held himself on the court. The way his reflexes were ever so sharp, his eyes always peeled.
There was something amazing about Hinata, something he never truly shook no matter how hard he tried. Something he'd been envious of, at times.

"We won."

He stated the obvious, not really listening to Hinata's rant about being taller than the last time they had seen eachother
but smiling at his temper tantrum, more than anything.

"I know. But that doesn't mean I've lost yet."

Hinata's expression changed instantly, narrowing his eyes at Kageyama, a spark of determination illumianting them.
