Ok, so there has been a lot of @MikeyRayer love on my timeline today. So here's a little story about what happened to depressed 11 year old me after we crashed out of the 1991 @rugbyworldcup to Australia at Cardiff Arms Park.
I was hanging around outside the dressing rooms after the game to get my match programme signed by both teams. Something nerdy 11 year old me used to do after most Cardiff matches at the time. On this occasion there were loads of other kids there. Lots of them were 'asking'...
...or almost demanding some free gear from the Welsh players. Some players were indeed giving bits of kit away. I was going to pluck up the courage to ask Rayer. But before I did, several kids swarmed him and begged for gear (none of them saying please!).
Rayer said to them he had already promised someone some of his gear. So I knew now it was pointless even asking. He then walked past the kids, reached into his bag and gave me his match shorts! He recognised me from Cardiff games and probably knew how much it would mean to me.
Apart from showing the class of the man, it also gave me one good thing to remember about the horrific period in Welsh history that was Oct 6th to Oct 12th of the 1991 @rugbyworldcup. Once again, thank you @MikeyRayer Here's a very blurry screenshot of the relic from the game.
