I feel like a lot of western people’s takes on mdzs are kinda cold because they fail to take into account the fact that asian societies generally seem to be collectivist rather than individualist and the characters all reflect that? I could be wrong though?
the fact that sect leaders are forced to put their sect and responsibilities first or elder siblings who have raised a younger one are overprotective or extremely concerned or breaking off from family is wrong or authority figures and guardians are respected regardless is normal
I can’t speak for China of course, but it’s just like. by what I’ve seen and experienced, we do actually live like that and do just fine.
