In Alabama and elsewhere, canceled hearings and new procedures are complicating the parole process for people hoping to be freed.

In CA, the BPH postponed the hearings from March 16-27 for 6 months. They have started a pilot program at 7 prisons to do hearings remotely, and Gov Newsom has required that all prisons start holding remote hearings by April 13th.

As of today, there are over 450 people who were found suitable for parole Oct 2019 - March 2020 who have not yet been released. Their average age is 53 and they have spent on average 25 years in prison. The time to expedite their review and release is now.

We know that paroled lifers have THE LOWEST recidivism rate of any group. These people have served their time and demonstrated that they belong home with family and community. They have parole plans as part of their packet. They will be #saferathome
