Haven’t had a chance to see how awesome open streets are? Check out this thread with a video tour of the open streets around Sloan’s Lake from start to finish. Huge thanks to @DenverDOTI @denverparksrec and @BikeWalkBus @MayorHancock @DenverPerfect10 for making this happen.
This has been a game changer for people that want to get out and walk, bike, or roll in the neighborhoods of Denver. So much more room to spread out responsibly.
The streets are semi permeable to those that need to do deliveries or get to their homes. Most folks I’ve seen in cars have been super respectful. Sorry for the muffled audio commentary btw, I was wearing a mask.
This is my favorite section, completely closed off to cars. During the evening you’ll see lots of families out here with little kids in strollers, balance bikes, and kids scooters. Probably the most full of life I’ve seen this part of the park in the years I’ve lived here.
Denver is lucky enough to also have open streets on 16th Ave, 11th Ave and other closures in our parks like Ruby Hill. So we are pretty excited that we’ve heard there will be more to come. Thanks to our NW Denver Councilperson @sandovalcd1 too! https://twitter.com/allencowgill/status/1246194863890022401?s=21 https://twitter.com/allencowgill/status/1246194863890022401
I was reminded just the other day by @RobinMazumder that this is truly an equity issue. Grateful we have a progressive city government in Denver that understands the importance of open streets and look forward to more of them here.
