Ryan White gave courage and a voice to AIDS victims everywhere at age 13. Learn more about why IUDM dances for Ryan in this thread. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💫" title="Dizzy symbol" aria-label="Emoji: Dizzy symbol">
After facing a mass amount of hysteric hate and discrimination, Ryan stood for a community battling this unknown, deadly disease. He fought for his ability to attend school and eventually moved from Kokomo to attend 8th grade.
Ryan was under the care of Dr. Martin Kleiman and Dr. Elaine Cox at Riley Hospital. Known for being comforting and optimistic at Riley, Ryan lived past his original life expectancy by 5 years.
Ryan unfortunately passed away on April 8 of 1990, just shy of becoming a freshman at IU in the Fall. Today, Ryan would have been 48. His best friend Jill Stewart began IUDM in his honor the same year. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🎈" title="Balloon" aria-label="Emoji: Balloon">
Though Ryan was never with us physically, he lives within all of us. We look to Ryan for bravery when times seem unforeseeable.
