Guys, I want to take a moment to discuss how amazing my schoolhouse’ response to Covid-19 has been. When we realized that we might possibly close, we moved spring break to 3/17 to start virtual learning on 3/24. We trained our teachers on distance learning
We sent home release forms to see how many ppl needed computers. Told them to come get them that Monday. We got dropped the password to get free wifi in our band app & distributed food
We kicked off our classes using zoom & google classroom. But also checking in to see how kids were experiencing distance learning
We kicked off the Monday with my principal doing attendance challenge roll call in the morning announcements via IG live. Every grade has a band group and they’re responsible for waking each other up
Even as we told parents that graduation was canceled we still are creating virtual events to help the kids celebrate
Im very proud of how we responded and that we as a schoolhouse decided that we would plan with the idea that we wouldn’t be returning school from day 1. This is why distance learning has been a breeze
We keep our morning announcements fun with music and remind kids that we have fun because many of them are really down
The next challenge was our Cinderella challenge! This is our dance teacher who is also a parent of DCsTeens. But each week the winner of our challenges gets an @UberEats gift card emailed to them
And we are the schoolhouse in Ward 8. East of the River where ppl have the least access was prepared for this
