Black and Brown people dying at higher rates #coronavirus due to a confluence of issues all created by white supremacy and capitalism. Follow:
People with underlying health conditions are more vulnerable. Black & Brown people have higher rates of diabetes, heart conditions, asthma etc due to lack of access to healthcare that was privatized, healthy food but more exposure to poor environmental conditions #coronavirus
To be safe from COVID-19 people need to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. Black and Brown people can’t. They live in overcrowded housing due to high housing costs caused by greed and failure to have a right to housing in the US #coronavirus
To be safe from COVID-19 stay home. Black and Brown people can’t. They’re disproportionately in low paying jobs that are essential for us to survive and be safe: cleaning hospitals, grocery stores, bus drivers, food plants and warehouses. Ant got to pay bills #coronavirus
To be Safe from COVID-19 essential workers should use protective gear. Black and Brown people are in jobs not considered “first responders” so there’s no guarantee that their employers can even buy gear. And some wouldn’t anyway to save $ #coronavirus
To survive when diagnosed with COVID-19 you must get a Dr to give ok for test and go to hospital for care. Black and Brown people face discrimination in health care so some are being turned away. #coronavirus
During the pandemic, children should be given a sense of normalcy & keep learning. Black & Brown children overwhelmingly attend schools that lack tech for online classes or they don’t have access to internet AND parents had to go to work #coronavirus
Being in jail with a pandemic is a death sentence. Black and Brown people are disproportionately criminalized and locked up as part of the prison industrial complex. They will die in jail from #COVID19 #FreeThemNoe #FreeandSafe
All this to say, America’s race problem is killing people, hurting families and communities. It’s front and center. #CoronavirusRacism
