Let me clarify my take here sans jokes:

Given what Twitch wants to do as a business, these guidelines are written well as they are non-specific and allow them discretion. The language is designed to be vague and give them wiggle room while making it look like they’re listening https://twitter.com/travisshreffler/status/1247573822104051715
So the clothing rules are pretty clear and actionable so that’s good.

But also they’re stupid and regressive. Male nipples are fine but female aren’t? It’s a stupid double-standard that ultimately appeals to the conservative-common denominator of Western culture
The Sexually Suggestive guidelines are flat out useless. Basically ANYTHING can be considered suggestive under these rules, and that’s the point. Twitch is free to do whatever they want while showing us what they want but not in a useful way

Kreygasm is literally suggestive
This comes down to the crux of the problem:

Moderating user-generated content in a consistent way is impossible

This is not a Twitch-specific problem. It’s an issue on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, etc. You can either have strict and unfair rules, or make it up as you.
I would have FAR more respect if Twitch gave us the honest answer:

“We’re going to evaluate content based on what makes the most business sense for Twitch” and stop trying to pander to Streamer Twitter in the first place.
Twitch is trying to give the appearance of listening and appearing progressive (thus the “female-presenting” language) while also maintaining conservative rules.

Kinda like how Establishment Dems are all like “Hashtag Resistance!” while taking checka from Big Pharma
Anyway, can’t wait for the Late Night Jimmys to come to Twitch and then thats all we’ll see from then on
My final point is this:

Always be critical of gray areas in these policies and never assume that these companies are going to make decisions in your favor. Ever.
There’s 2 kinds of people:

- Those who are heartened by seeing Twitch take a step in the right direction
- Those of us who aren’t new to this and know that these guideline updates change nothing

and with that, muted this thread lol
