Thread:
1/. The tragedy of private sector companies is that they can go bankrupt - managers and staff lose their jobs, shareholders get wiped out, creditors lose money etc. But at least this brutality engenders a sense of urgency and discipline;
2/. The tragedy of non profit institutions and public sector is that nothing ever goes bust, so mistakes and incompetence persist. Take the WHO and Public Health England. If they were companies, both would go bust after this - each having failed very badly;
3/. But unfortunately this is unlikely to happen. No one in either organisation will be sacked or face the consequences of their hopeless leadership or their disastrous guidance. And both institutions will say they did well - when they failed.
