I have more anxiety about not being at work right now than about the 'Rona. I'm with a new module in a new region, doing online coursework. Any other year we'd be doing critical training, meeting new crew members and building team cohesion.
I understand that there are good faith efforts to implement smart protocols, but we lack the capacity and infrastructure to maintain social distancing once fire season starts.
For example, the point of having one driver is so that people can rest. We can't all drive different vehicles- even *if* we had enough vehicles to go around. Especially if one of the big stats that comes out every years is injury from MVAs.
I'm working under the assumption that we're all going to get it, and don't get me wrong, I know we will all try to do our best. But no way am I wearing a mask if i'm digging line in beargrass and mouth-breathing. Also imagine asking all the dudes to shave their beards. LOLOLOL.
I guess.... I wish we'd see more early efforts put into (1) the communications strategy to prevent human caused starts (2) the contingencies to the inevitability of a diminished workforce (3) a better and more streamlined OWCP process for illness and injury.
