Damn, I just discovered that this Country has been in a loop since the first republic in 1960, when the British gave us independence. The so-called 'founding fathers' and leaders that we've been praising all our lives for bringing us out of British dominance...
were the ones who ruined us after we gained this 'freedom'.
Yes, they fought for, and won our independence, and that was patriotic from their point of view, but what ensued after we gained complete control of our political space was a total disaster.....
It turns out the 'founding fathers', Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe, Ahmadu Bello, and Tafawa Balewa never really liked each other (they just came together for what was the common goal at that time). They were obviously very intelligent, highly educated and.....
powerful, but they still had some kind of resentment towards each other, especially based on the fact that they were of different tribes (which eventually led to the civil war in 1967). And this resentment was more evident after our.....
colonial masters left. Then came the hunger for power and greed for money (which also led to the military intermittently taking over). These guys basically ran us down.
Critically looking through history, you would.....
find that the occurrences between 1960 and 1979 repeated itself between 1979 and 1999 - a recycled loop. What's funny is we're in the fourth republic now and it seems like the same issues we struggled with in the first republic are still here, if not.....
even more (corruption, greed, injustice, ethnic and religious division, hunger for power, and lack of patriotism). These people in power right now have all been involved from the beginning. But we are a young nation, and maybe, just maybe, if Jesus tarries.....
we can turn this dire situation around.
Though we are hanging on the thin lone between safety and destruction, there is still hope.
