Why you need a Lawyer

Thread 🧵
Lawyers are your best guys.

They are not just for when you have problems…they are so you don’t have problems.

Prevention is better than cure.

Legal drama (not TV shows) are no jokes and you may just avoid it all together with a lawyer taking care of your matters.
Laws and legal documents can be quite technical.

Therefore, having a lawyer advice, draft, review and negotiate contracts and tiny details that you’d ordinarily miss, some of which were craftily inserted in the document, will save you a world of trouble.

For example, imagine inadvertently signing away your full copyright to a work of art or your image right for a meager sum today and being unable to monetize the work or receive royalties 10 years down the line despite increased patronage or traffic - tragic 😢 (2/2)
Seriously, Why?

I can’t count the number of times saying, ‘I’d have my lawyer take a look at it’ has made me feel like a serious person (not like I am not serious 🙃) but it has an extra touch to it, you get?

Now seriously,

The company contracting you for a script or a writing gig most likely has a lawyer whose goal is protecting his/her client’s interest and while this isn’t personal - the terms are not always going to favour you.
Also, Lawyers are also very connected.

From interacting and offering services to different people, they have a chain of network that may be useful to you. Who knows? 🤷‍♀️

And while you may think you are small fish right now and may not need a lawyer on a retainer basis, it is important to establish good rapport with lawyers as you never know when you’d become a ‘big fish’…

you’ve been eating, haven’t you? 😉

How’s the lock-down?

Hope you are staying at home and doing your best to be at peace in this season. It’s going to be alright. 🙏🏽

See you next week. 👋
