Hey, because I'm cheesy & can't focus on work, I want to start a thread on my peers, whose work I love respect & always read and you should too:
1/ Hannah Proctor @hhnnccnnll - one of the most talented young Marxist scholars of her generation. Seek her work on Soviet psychology & revolution mostly in journals like @rphilos or @tribunemagazine. her twitter is one of the best - dreamy, autobiographical, relatable.
2/ Owen Hatherley @owenhatherley he's my ex, so am biased & also it's not always easy 2realistically appreciate his stuff. He'd tremendous influence on me as a whole. His style's perfect combo of erudition, flare & scathe. Order Landscapes of Communism & read all on @lrb he writes
3/Juliet Jacques @zinovievletter 1 of the most compassionate, but also dedicated to her work writers I know. I admire the versatility of her work & her ceaseless creativity. Art criticism (like intv w/ @mckenziewark in @frieze this week) or memoir, she's always astute & informed.
4) Valeria Costa-Kostritsky @valeria_wants is a great reporter - her brief dispatches on @lrb and @Apollo_magazine like 1 recently on Petr Pavlensky, her inquisitiveness & quest for sex workers rights eg. I find admirable.
5/Sophie Lewis @reproutopia -her review 1ce on sexology & communists @newinquiry had me reevaluate my often squint-eyed look at my favoured historical era - but also turned me to her Full Surrogacy Now, unrivalled in informed expertise & flaring style work on current social repro
6) Huw Lemmey @huwlemmey is one of my favorite "writers" in the classical sense - it's a pure pleasure of words. his sentences are always perfectly composed, I can always relate to his introspections. Subscribe to @badgayspod, best podcast around & read his astounding sex novels.
7/ Dickon Edwards @dickon_edwards Not strictly my peer-I prob read about him at 13 in Warsaw int'l press stand in Smash Hits or summat!-but another writer who's a master of twitter form. His reviews @thewiremagazine are the best in the mag, if u ask me. Waiting 2read his longform
That's it for now, but will keep this thread going. it's nice to have sthg nice to say about someone, or the world, for a change.
