I guess the vibe today is Dunnett and Day drinking, then! I need very little encouragement to make a spectacle of myself [GoK]
Okay, got lunch, got wine, time to read. When last we left off, Richard was making bad choices again (on CHRISTMAS, no less!):
One of my fave things about this book so far is how solid all of the background characters feel. Like, they don& #39;t gaf about Crawford family drama! They just wanna have Christmas!
Richard& #39;s good judgement just immediately goes out the window wrt Francis, huh
On an unrelated note, I don& #39;t drink much anymore and am already feeling slightly like the elusive Mr. Waugh after like. A fourth of a cup of wine.
The Crawford charm does seem to be a bit genetic, given Richard THREW A MAN IN THE RIVER on CHRISTMAS EVE and got invited to dinner over it

TBC I /do/ adore and feel for Richard but man. MAN. A slightly less singular focus would do him a world of good
Always have a minor heart attack when my irl surname shows up in fiction, despite it being Not That Uncommon A Name
I have to slow my reading speed waaaay down when we hit political bits, to make sure they& #39;ve permeated my poor weak brain
1) VERY interesting comparison of the Crawford brothers here, re: an apparent difference that& #39;s actually a similarity

Will: Francis has a History™ with Margaret Lennox and that is None Of My Business
Will:
Will: However,

Will: However,
Man, the "fuck you buddy" that Francis is emphatically not saying while Douglas is like "fratricide? (:" is sure palpable
WHEN will Dunnett let me fight Sir George Douglas in the street
We& #39;ve been dunking on the Crawfords for not understanding each other, but I think the miscommunication award for the day goes to Buccleuch and Will for this rendezvous scene
Talk to each other! No, not like that! Maybe hire a therapist!
Oh, okay, they scuffled and now Buccleuch respects Will. Jocks, man.
WAS HIS SISTER IN THAT CONVENT
Oh no, misunderstandings! WHO could have been doing the betraying out here!
Okay I have to go do housewifely shit now, l will return
I am back, and WOW THIS SURE IS A CONVENIENT OUTCOME FOR FRANCIS
I& #39;m not saying he planned it, I& #39;m just saying it& #39;s a nice bonus that Richard& #39;s attempts at Will-napping also made Will more likely to only trust Francis
It& #39;s been a while since I had to knife-emoji at Francis but HOO BOY he& #39;s getting pretentious and mean again
BUT THERE IS A BABY BUCCLEUCH!
I have STUDIED Old and Middle English! I used to be really pedantic and prideful about it! There is no reason for my immediate aggression response to seeing pawn spelled "pawön," but yet here we are.
Also, I know Mary S. lives but :(((( be safe bb, childhood mortality is a bitch
Christian: I probably don& #39;t want to marry you!
Tom Erskine: you mean right now? Will you want to marry me later? What about next month?

Christian:
The presents Francis keeps sending Mariotta are TACKY, I& #39;m SORRY, I know it& #39;s the style of the era! But I cannot abide it!
A shock, Richard! Your wife knows shit about politics! Maybe if you, I don& #39;t know, TALKED TO HER--
OH THIS IS GONNA GO SO POORLY
AAAAAAAA
Stopping again to make supper but holy shit
