Today marks the International Day of Remembrance for Victims of the Rwandan Genocide, as well as the Canadian Day of Reflection of the Prevention of Genocide.
In 2009, I had the opportunity to prosecute war crimes with the United Nations at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
That experience exposed me to the horrors of genocide in a way few people ever are, as we mounted evidence of the war crimes and crimes against humanity that unfolded for 100 long days in Rwanda in 1994.
Today, we must all renounce these heinous acts of violence, hatred, and discrimination, and recommit to standing opposed to genocide and ethnic cleansing in all its forms.
